Normally, Chinese public children’s hospital seeks for high efficiency rather than families’ experience due to the heavy workload of doctors. As a result, a lot of hospitals are crowded and noisy with exhausted parents and their uncomfortable kids.

To optimize the medical experience, Shanghai Children’s Medical Center(SCMC) collaborated with Tongji University to initiated the a design challenge, aiming to use design power to create a child-friendly healthcare environment.

ECG & UCG are two of the basic cardiac examinations. However, for kids, the unfamiliar environment and people in the hospital would give them the feelings of fear and resistance, thus affecting the success rate of examination.

“Dive” hopes to make the kids fully immerse in the knowledge of their circulation system in the treatment process, and provide nursing care in a more accessible way in the method of design, so as to improve the efficiency of the examination, enhance the medical experience

Conducted field research, learn about the factors that matters and how they related to each other

Conducted in-dept interview to better understand their thoughts and feeling in the whole process

Observed and record the flow of the families and the HCPs, as well as their conversations and behaviors
